The final and fifth tenet of Abolition is Immediatism.
As abolitionists, we believe
that allowing abortion in some cases along the way to its total abolition is
neither strategically sound nor consistently Christian. You cannot abolish any
evil by justifying or allowing it to continue in some cases.
Any strategy for ending abortion in this country which allows for
the continued occurrence of some abortions for the sake of eventually outlawing
the rest, though seemingly pragmatic, is compromise and its promises of
effectiveness are false. It dehumanizes the babies that are not protected
and undermines the truth that these innocents are people and that abortion is
murder.
Abolition is a call not only to stop/end/forsake/abolish abortion
itself, but also the practice that has largely become characteristic of the
Prolife Movement, namely,
Treating abortion as undesirable healthcare, rather than the
actual murder of the innocent.
Cloaking, neglecting, or the outright rejection of using God’s
Creation, Law, and the Gospel to contend with abortion rather than consistently wielding these truths as
the REAL weapon to turn the heart.
Regulating the mass murder of the most vulnerable, telling WHO can
murder, WHEN they can murder, WHY they can murder, WHERE they can murder, and
HOW they can murder under color of “law”, rather than actually engaging for the
abolition of that murder under law.
As abolitionists, we reject incremental steps and the gradual regulation
of evil. This is not an issue of
what seems practical,
achievable, or reasonable. It is an issue of obedience
to God.
Many have rejoiced over the closing of the great number of
Abortion Clinics throughout our Country within the last few years.
In many cases, it has been prolife legislation that has shut these
places of death down. Prolife regulatory laws such as requiring cleanliness,
licenses, wider halls, closer vicinity to a hospital where the abortionist has
residency privileges, stipulating “safer” procedures (for the mother of course,
NOT the child), etc., has closed the doors of those who cannot meet them.
But these laws are treating treating abortion as
“healthcare”, not as what we know it really is—homicide of the most defenseless
of human beings. These laws are not establishing justice for the
fatherless who we are commanded to protect, but are only insuring the
safety and comfort of those who are hiring to have them killed.
Although these little dirty mills are no more, the killing continues. Where
prolife laws have secured the destruction of some businesses they have also
secured the success of many more. Bigger, cleaner, and respectable
looking abortuaries are being built (in mind to keep any client from having any
contact with Christians who would counsel them to flee or offer them help).
These businesses are now even more efficient killing centers,
giving the bloody deeds done within their walls a sanitized cover, mollifying
the conscience. They remain open due to prolife laws.
Also in relation to the mills shutting down, we must recognize that for years now, one can go buy an abortion at any Walmart, CVS, or Walgreens. It is available over the counter. The babies are still being MURDERED, only at a younger age. Yet that doesn't seem to bother us so much because of how ageist we have become.
We must make no compromise with sin or with the means of fighting
sin.
Abortion is the abominable sin of child sacrifice and as such we call for its immediate and total abolition. (Jeremiah 25:25, John 8:11, Acts 17:30, Proverbs 9:6).
We see this in God’s dealing
with Judah: “They said, Turn
ye again NOW every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and
dwell in the land that the LORD hath given unto you and to your fathers for
ever and ever:” (Jeremiah
25:25). God never accepts a gradual repentance of sin (individually or
nationally) but rather demands a radical cutting off and turning towards Christ
alone in total faith. Jesus declared to sinners, “Go, and sin no more” (John 8:11). Repentance
is not an evolutionary transition from darkness to light over time. Repentance
is a complete reversal of belief, thought, and action. We are to call
people NOW to repent (Acts 17:30; II Corinthians 6:2). “Forsake the foolish and live” (Proverbs 9:6).
The time for justice is always now!
Abortion must be abolished.
